R. Kelly Discomfort

Posted by RJ on June 5, 2008

We know that R. Kelly is a gifted musician. He has created a range of tracks that are catchy (I Wish), seductive (Half on a Baby), and even inspirational (I Believe I Can Fly). At age 41 (maybe), he has made, or re-made, hits with almost every hot hip-hop, R&B, or rap artist (even a few pop) that you can think of. R. Kelly

Even amidst controversy (marriage to Aaliyah) and his on-going legal battles (sex with minors), he continues to resurface and claim his name….Kells?…

The Pied Piper of R&B?Wtf?

Now, at first, when the accusations about R. Kelly having sex with minors was reported, I tried to brush it under the rug. Sure, I downloaded and watched the infamous sex tapes on my computer several years ago . I was quite entertained because out of 3 different clips, one was obviously not him, one could have been him, and one you cannot convince me of his innocence. Like the rest of the download world, I saw him situate the camera, and piss on a girl who appeared to be in her early teens.

Wait! How do I know this girl was in her late teens? Well, because she was wearing Princess Reeboks and she had baby teeth. No, just kidding. I said she “appeared” to be…There is a possibility that she could have been legal. But there are certain things, like mannerisms and breast posture, that give us women clues (men either don’t know, or don’t give a fuck).

Going back–so I remained an R. Kelly fan then because I am a skeptic by nature, and the 12 Play album remains so dear to me that I couldn’t part with it. But then there were more accusations, followed by a name change–to the Pied Piper. After that, I lost hope. I mean he did marry a young girl, so there’s the correlation right there.R. Kelly mug shot

The Pied Piper is the worst name R. Kelly could have picked, short of Chester-the-Molester. The tale of the Pied Piper, in short, was that a man who played a musical pipe ended up luring many children to their disappearance, or death. Come on now, R.! Please tell me that wasn’t the best thing you could come up with at the most wrong time!

From that point on, I became more reserved about loving R. Kelly. I tried not to listen to him on the radio because I didn’t want to feel like I was supporting his “minor habits.” I thought that hip-hop was doing the same thing and keeping him low-key until I heard him on Same Girl with Usher, Speedin’ with Rick Ross, and then on The Dream’s Shawty is a 10 Remix. Hell nawl! No he wasn’t on the remix! I was sick to my stomach when I heard it. Was he really saying “Shawty is a teen[ager],” or maybe, “Shawty is 10 [years old]?”! Please stop him!

And now he is on Mariah’s Touch my Body Remix. R. Kelly’s not touching her body because she is married to Nick Cannon…but more so because Mariah is close to his supposed age = not interested. He just gives me the creeps. Every time he opens his mouth to sing his verse, I get all tense and bubbly because I’m afraid he’s going to be talking about “drip-drop” or something involving young girls. I may be paranoid but I swear he keeps telling on himself.

If he is innocent, I apologize. I know older men may get carried away with the little-girl groupies that overpopulate the music industry. But, please, spare us our young daughters and let them maintain their chastity in spite of the predominating media images that insult their self-esteem. We have enough going against us already.
